With the gap set, it's now time to clean up the receiver. I prefer to use a lapping compound on the inside of the receiver where the mouthpiece enters. The liquid lapping compound polishes it to an almost mirror-like finish. Also it's a good time to buff the exterior of the receiver.

Before soldering the receiver to the leadpipe, I spin it on the lathe to make sure it's straight.

Actually the fit is rather tight and there is no play. But still, it's always a good idea to make sure the leadpipe is straight before mounting it on the horn.
