Current Custom Bach Project, begin date: 02-08-03

Now it's time to set the gap in the receiver. For this project, we decided to use a custom made 2 - 5/8" long receiver (a copy of a 1930's Bach receiver). The standard gap (distance between end of mpc shank and entrance of leadpipe tube) is .125", or 1/8". I'll measure the distance from the bottom of receiver to the mpc. This measurement will then be compared to the distance from end of receiver to ridge inside of receiver. I find it's easier to set the gap with the receiver removed.

Here's the Morse taper finishing reamer and receiver. Before I actually start cutting with the reamer, I'll wrap the hexaganol end of the receiver with tape to avoid marring. I'll be using a hex wrench to hold the receiver while I use the tapered reamer.
